In 1965 a student named Fred DeLuca opened a sandwich shop in Bridgeport CT as a way to earn money for college. That decision had a massive unintended consequence. It was the founding moment of the fast food chain eventually renamed Subway. Navigating that consequence changed life, and dinner, for DeLuca and the rest of us.
Now, sixty years later, kids not much older than DeLuca have been directed by another private citizen to breach the integrity of the Federal Treasury and its cache of private citizens’ information. For some reason that reminds me of an old movie whose name I don’t quite remember. Maybe the Great Train Robbery?
We’ve all had to navigate consequences in our lives, our own and others’. Sometimes that requires asking for help. If navigating this event disturbs you, have you contacted your Senators? Public opinion matters.
To contact them online, google to find their names if you’re not sure and go to their websites. Some prefer email contact, others have a contact page on their site.
If you’d rather phone, check online for your Senators’ call the United States Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121. A switchboard operator will connect you directly with the Senate office you request.
For Postal Correspondence, use
Office of Senator (Name)
United States Senate

Again, public opinion matters.
Thank you!
